"Song for Today" is a gem from the 1993 version of this legendary collegiate ensemble, who refer to themselves as "America's Finest Singing Machine" for good reason. The first half of the CD, 12 of 24 cuts, is spiritually oriented, including "Sing Dem Herrn," "O Regim Caeli," "Praise Him!," "Laudamus," "E'en So Lord Jesus Quickly Come," "God Is My Rock," "Heaven," "The Creation" and the spiritual, "Ride the Chariot." The second half is more secular material, "Selections from the Student Prince," the title tune, "She Is My Slender Small Love," "Let No Man Despise Thy Youth," "Polly Von," the lilting "From Boston Harbor," "Blue World," "Kiss the Girl" and the barbershop tune "Red Head." Spirited, powerful stuff from BGSU's talented young male singers, one of the best collegiate singing traditions of all time! |
