Along the way, the group desire was to share our music with the public. We began to rehearse at larger venues under the direction of several talented volunteer musical directors, and we broadened our audiences from senior residences to public spaces like the Denver Zoo, the Denver Botanical Gardens, and the Georgetown Winter Festival. We have also enjoyed singing the National Anthem at Colorado Rockies games. (See video at our website.) As a non-profit, we have Guidelines to clarify the roles and responsibilities of members and officers alike. However, we strive to reach decisions by consensus to maintain the creative and cooperative spirit of the group and to honor the tradition started by the original members. We typically sing 10-12 songs in a performance, and will feature 'small groups' who form and practice on their own, then audition for the director to perform throughout the season. Our practice has been to add 2-3 new songs each season, keeping 6-8 songs of the previous year (or pulling from the previous two years). This keeps our learning curve manageable. Of course new members always have the hardest road their first season, and we're good about supporting them through (that's when those practice CDs and recording rehearsals really help). We have been building community through singing for over 40 years! |
