The Instruments is a male A Capella singing group based in Nairobi, formed in Kisumu, Kenya in the year 2009.The story begins on a sad note. Two students from Kenyatta University had to be on a long holiday after a twin strike in its campuses that left three students dead and a host of other damages to the institution and students. Unfortunately, one of the students caught in the mayhem was our lead and current chair, Tom Mboya. This is a story he might as well share by himself on another day. Tom together with Jermin had had a wonderful first two years in campus singing with a few other students in a group called The Inspired Breath (Some of its members later got to be part of The Instruments). Now with the campus closed, they went back to Kisumu. Armed with time, they decide to start another singing group in their home town. They started off with a few friends in the town at Better Living SDA Church some of whom later moved to Nairobi and eventually within two years or less most of the group was in Nairobi, Kenya. The time in Kisumu was well used to put the vision and start the ball rolling. Believing that young men should not sit idle, this venture proved worthwhile to keep us in the word and moulded to good Christians. However, it was back in Nairobi that a lot changed for the good. We remember spending months close to a year being in the "Kitchen". We worked our voices, the members changed with others having need to be out of town. The group kept with the effort and mission. By the close of the year 2011, we intentionally began on a plan to write our own songs and record our first album. In the close of 2012, the then 6 member team successfully recorded the first Album, A Love Letter. This album has for all these years blessed many people and us specifically. Most of its songs ended up blessing many people on media especially TV. We have since been blessed with God to sing at national events and functions which to our surprise has reached even the President of Kenya and the August House (Parliamentarians). The journey is still on and we have so far recorded a DVD album and three Audio Albums. Our vision, just as it is working closely with God, is huge and humbling. While we thank God for all His wonderful blessings on us, it is our core goal to Always Lift Up Christ; To hear from Him at the close of ages saying, "Well done, good and faithful servant" |
