In this meetup, you'll meet like-minded individuals who love to sing and move in a joyful and liberating way. We practice the art of saying YES to what is happening in the moment - exploring sound and movement, expressing ourselves, making stuff up - applying the elements of music to create change in our lives and our relationships. We've noticed, in ourselves and each other, that we are opening up and feeling more freedom in other areas of our lives. Live music making is a fun way to practice the life skills that we need to support personal transformation- big and small. Applying simple musical structures from the traditions of Vocal River, Embodied Voicework, Vox Mundi Project and Touching Voices, we play with natural sounds, tone, melody, rhythm, language, and movement. We activate the imagination, listen deeply, and learn to trust the music (and ourselves and the ensemble). For instance: shifting attention back and forth between Self and others becomes a focused exercise of interpersonal skills; being willing to say YES to what is happening in the music teaches us to let go of preconceived notions about what is true and what is possible. And all the while, we are creating one-of-a-kind spontaneous musical compositions! It's really fun. Throughout history, human beings have gathered in circles to sing and dance and drum and tell stories to celebrate, to lament, to honor life and community. It's natural, evolutionary, essential to meet and support each other - to re-member our interconnectedness - to transcend our differences and self-imposed obstacles so we can experience the kind of universal joy that sparks purpose in our lives. Together we use our art to cultivate awe, wonder, and beauty... and become the change our world needs. It's exhilarating. It's affirming. It's liberating. It's fun. It's changing everything. Sing for Yourself. This group is focused on the experience of music as an agent of change. It is more process oriented rather than performance. We are playing with our inherent musicality more than our learned musicianship. |
