Circlesongs are guided improvisational group songs, usually without words, that are steeped in rhythm and harmony. This tradition is a form constructed by Bobby McFerrin based on historical tribal music. Any level of singer is invited to participate. Our mission is to provide a safe, mistake-free zone where community comes together to experience the power of voice, frequency of sound and subsequent soothing of spirit. Marie Swan Black is a performing singer/songwriter, sound artist and voice teacher. In 2013 she graduated from the intensive year-long voice teacher apprenticeship at Transformational Voice Institute. She holds a BA in Psychology and has been in the healing arts profession since 1992. She finds helping people in opening their voices to be more intimate and spiritual than other healing arts. Marie fell in love with Circle Singing when she was first introduced to the form by her former voice coach, Raz Kennedy, at Bobby McFerrin's first 24 hour Chant for World Peace on New Year's Eve, 1991, where she was a guest vocalist. She has since studied the form with Bobby McFerrin and facilitates CircleSong events, performs with her band and is accepting voice students. Marie believes that each person has a beautiful, powerful and unique soundprint whose emergence is essential to the health of our society and planet |
