Bella Musica Chorus & Orchestra History

Bella Musica Chorus & Orchestra

Based in: Berkeley, United States.

Our organization consists of both professionals and volunteers. We range from 25 to 60 choir members and hold informal auditions.

The chorus meets weekly from 8 to 11 weeks per semester. Sectionals are scheduled to facilitate learning of the music. Soloists and members of the orchestra (who are paid), receive the music at the beginning of the semester and later meet with the chorus for rehearsals during the last two weeks.

A semester traditionally culminates with two concerts of major works for chorus and orchestra often with standing ovations to our audiences. We close each concert performing a short work with the audience.

Bella Musica could not exist without the devotion and time of its volunteers, who do all the chores related to weekly rehearsals, as well as concert set-up and publicity. We do, however, have several paid staffers: Our conductor, accompanist, vocal coach, and a part-time manager.
