Vocalconsort Berlin

 Vocalconsort Berlin

Mixed Choral Ensemble from Germany.

The Vocalconsort Berlin was founded in 2003 and, in the same year, had its successful debut at the Innsbruck Festival Week in Claudio Monteverdi's "L'Orfeo" under the direction of Rene Jacobs.

The Berlin based ensemble, whose ambitious members have also been able to gather experience in other internationally active chamber choirs is particularly specialized in early Baroque and Baroque. In addition, the Vocalconsort Berlin presents new interpretations of romantic and contemporary music.

The variability and flexibility of the Vocalconsort's composition, which can range from double quartet to multi-choir performance while at the same time allowing for the inclusion of solo performances, gives the Vocalconsort Berlin the ability to perform both in concert format as well as on the opera and theatrical stage.

The pure, inspiring and dynamic sound of the Vocalconsort Berlin finds its artistic counterpart in the cooperation with renowned conductors such as Marcus Creed, Rene Jacobs, Jos van Immerseel, Gary Cooper, Olof Boman and Ottavio Dantone as well as with excellent orchestras such as the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin, the Accademia Bizantina, the Hamburg baroque orchestra elbipolis and the Belgian baroque orchestra Brock. Particularly with the Akademie fur Alte Musik Berlin, they enjoy strong ties of an extraordinary artistic and privileged cooperation.

Since 2006 the Vocalconsort Berlin works together with Sasha Waltz and Guests and the Academie fur Alte Musik Berlin under the roof of the RADIALSYSTEM V, the new location for performance art on the Spree.

Vocalconsort Berlin : Motets

Review: The Motet is the oldest compositional genre in European polyphonic art music. Its history can be followed without interruption from the 12th century to the present day. The form was regular part of liturgical services in the two principle churches of Leipzig where JS Bach was employed from 1723 until his death in 1750. Scholars are divided as to the purpose of the six Motets. Though most of them were thought to be funeral music, they cover a lot of ground in terms of creativity, originality, choral and vocal techniques. Marcus Creed and the Vocalconsort Berlin offer small scale, intimate readings of these evergreen masterpieces.
