Circlesinging can be described lots of ways - vocal improvisation, vocal jamming, add-or-change-a-part, vocal orchestra, voicestra, a drum circle for singers, or just plain make it up singing. It's done all over the world in countless different ways and it dates back to the earliest forms of human singing. Circlesinging is a mistake-free zone. A recent newcomer summed it up perfectly when she said, "It doesn't matter how you sound - the rest of the group makes you sound great! Come try it, it's fun!"

What is Circle Singing? Circle Singing is a community singing and sounding practice, spontaneous and evolving - like a drum circle for voices.
Here's the basic structure: The circle is divided into sections. A leader creates parts spontaneously - patterns, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, percussive sounds, recognizable words, or invented language - and teaches the parts orally to the sections, layering them together into completely original compositions. Each song is a unique creation, never sung before, never to be sung again.
From this basic structure we build into all types of vocal improv games. You can choose your level of participation. It's a very safe, simple, playful, community experience that will make you feel great!
All voices are welcome! No experience necessary!

What is Circle Singing? Circle singing is discovering your vocal expression through improvisation. It is about being in a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your creative potential. Circle singing plays with movement, where your body can also become ´musical´or an extension of your own voice.
We could say it weaves in theatrical and dance mediums to experiment with the body as a creative instrument, for vocal inspiration.

CircleSinging is a spontaneous, improvisational community-singing experience, a little bit like a "drum circle" for singers. In a circlesong, a leader starts by improvising a line of music and gives it / teaches it to one part of the circle. The leader then develops a second part that goes with the first and gives that part to another section of the circle. CircleSingers learn and repeat the exact part given to them. Soon we are singing a four part (at least) chorus that has never been sung before. This chorus can support individual solos.

Circle Singing London, formed in 2014, is designed to explore creativity through vocal improvisation; regularly participating in various music festivals around London - Bloom Festival at The Space, Of Improvisation Festival - and visiting other unusual places to explore sound effects and acoustics - such as Leake Street Tunnels, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park's Bridges, the Stepney Green farm, London Bridge's railway arches.
This project gives an opportunity to jam, create spontaneous sounds, listen to others and express your unique song, while being part of a unified group.

CircleSinging is a form of facilitated Vocal Improv which could be described as "a drum circle for singers" or "improvised choral music." During the course of the ever-changing chant, the leader develops and gives parts to a circle of singers, which in turn supports individual solos. Both participating in and witnessing the creation of the music that emerges is often an exhilarating and joyful (many have said spiritual) experience.

Circlesinging is a spontaneous, improvisational community-singing experience, a little bit like a "drum circle" for singers. It's done all over the world in countless different ways and it dates back to the earliest forms of human singing. We take inspiration from methods developed by Bobby McFerrin and his collaborators. Our experienced circlesong leaders create parts on-the-spot, and lead groups in fun wordless songs. Sing beautiful harmonies without sheet music; promote self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment; and, many circlesingers find that it fosters cooperation, teamwork, and community. It's important to listen deeply -- to each other and to ourselves -- and to be responsive to what is there. This is a "mistake-free" zone, for all levels of singers. Come sing with us!

To remember our innate musical intelligence and capacity to share music and meaning with other humans. To sing our essential nature, deepening the quality of our listening. To feel at home within ourselves and let our inner confidence grow... so that we can embrace many ways to learn, in togetherness and by ourselves, that don't require striving onwards and upwards but instead, dropping deep into the joy and wisdom and creativity that lays within each and every one of us.

Circlesongs are guided improvisational group songs, usually without words, that are steeped in rhythm and harmony. This tradition is a form constructed by Bobby McFerrin based on historical tribal music.
Any level of singer is invited to participate. Our mission is to provide a safe, mistake-free zone where community comes together to experience the power of voice, frequency of sound and subsequent soothing of spirit.
Marie believes that each person has a beautiful, powerful and unique soundprint whose emergence is essential to the health of our society and planet

OneVoice CircleSingers is an improvisational singing community with a spiritual attitude. We're a "vocal jam-fest with heart," a community gathering of folks who form an improvised choir. Our leadership is offered primarily by members of SoVoSo, an Oakland-based vocal band.
Circlesinging can last as long you want. Our 2-hour monthly circles and our 12-hour annual Sing For Your Life celebration are just the way we do it. People come and go, solo or stay with the group, and sometimes even take a turn leading. There are other groups around the Bay Area, and in other parts of the country, and each has its own flavor - some are more structured, and some are looser. What matters and what's magic is, it's different every time, and singers of all levels of experience are welcome.

In this meetup, you'll meet like-minded individuals who love to sing and move in a joyful and liberating way. We practice the art of saying YES to what is happening in the moment - exploring sound and movement, expressing ourselves, making stuff up - applying the elements of music to create change in our lives and our relationships. We've noticed, in ourselves and each other, that we are opening up and feeling more freedom in other areas of our lives.
