Its Lonely At the Top Back In the Old Routine Is This Just Another Song About Love 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover Shenandoah Help, Im Tutning Into My Parents Smile Twighlight Zone/Twighlight Tone The Song Is Ended Yard Mowin Blues Feels Like Home Rehearsing At the Airport Jibberish and Silly Stuff The Star Spangled Banner |
They're back. The quartet with the International Personality to
go with their International acclaim as Queens of Harmony start with a David
Wright arrangement of Weird Al Yankovich's "This Is The Life." "It's
Lonely At The Top" is over the top. There's a totally original arrangement
of "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" just before a version of "Shenandoah"
that is so beautiful it's sends chills up and down. Whew, back to the yucks
with "Help, I'm Turning Into My Parents." Oh yes we must mention "Twilight
Zone/Twilight Tone," it's just what you might imagine. There isn't room
to describe all the joy in this recording, suffice it to say that there is more
vocal invention in Weekend Edition's creative arranging than this reviewer has
heard before. Quite a statement, that!

With Plenty Of Money And You (Ghost) Judges In The Pit Lu Lu's Back In Town The Masquerade Is Over One More Minute Only In My Dreams Regretting What I Said Pal Of My Cradle Days Proud Mary Lean On Me Original Dixieland One-Step The Raven Sing Me That Song Again Na, Na, Hey, Hey, Kiss Him Goodbye |
Ok, let's get the obligatory kudos out of the way. Weekend Edition
were the 1995 Queens of Harmony. You know that standing isn't just fluff, it
truly indicates that this is one of the best quartets in the world - ever! Now
that that's been said we can focus on the fabulous personality of this quartet
and take it for granted that the singing doesn't get any better. On the first
tune, "With Plenty Of Money And You," we are treated to one of the
most inventive arrangements you'll ever hear as the brass band takes over. Then
we have a delightfully funny description of participating in the International
Competition, "(Ghost) Judges In The Pit," sung to the tune of "(Ghost)
Riders In The Sky." It just goes on from there. Weekend Edition manages
to put more personality into a perfect studio recording than almost anyone!
