Take some oldies but goodies, mix in some street corner harmonies, then stir it up with a contagious sense of fun, and you have the Showvinistics, one of Rochester's most popular acappella groups for almost two decades. Filled with the spirit of showmanship manifested by their favorite 50s R&B groups, Dave DeLuca and Dan Guilfoyle gathered a group together to sing for a charitable event in 1982, and chose the name Showvinistics as a parody of early group names.
The current members have been together for 15 years. Through the years the Showvinistics have opened for a "Who's Who" of Rock and Roll, including the Beach Boys, Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge, Chuck Berry, Little Anthony and the Imperials, Danny & the Juniors, Frankie Avalon, and the Neville Brothers.Ê Their repertoire of more than 50 songs from the 50s and 60s has been performed at a variety of functions, festivals and fund raisers. ÊÊÊ From the opening of Frontier Field, to the stages of the Lilac Festival, the Eastman Theater and Symphony Space in NYC, this all-male quintet has entertained audiences with its unique harmonies and style. Ê Always a favorite at private parties and corporate functions, the Showvinistics perform monthly at The Red Osier Landmark in Stafford, N.Y. ÊÊÊ In May, 1999, the Showvinistics released their first CD, "Heart of Saturday Night", on the Forevermore label, which is still listed at Mainely Acappella and Forevermore Music. The group opened for the Temptations and the Isley Brothers in July, and in October sang the national anthem at the Buffalo Bills/Oakland Raiders game in front of 74,000+ fans. The year was capped off by a featured appearance in December, in connection with the PBS Special "Fifty Years of Doo Wop", which was aired by WXXI TV.
In 2000, the Showvinistic's CD won Contemporary Acappella Society Of America(CARA) awards in two (2) doo wop Ê categories: Best Single ("December '63" - "Oh, What A Night") and runner-up to the Persuasions for Best Doo Wop Album of 2000. In June the Group performed with the Bill Pinckney Drifters at Black Music Appreciation Day at the Rock 'N' Roll Hall Of Fame and performed the National Anthem for a packed house at Jacob Field before a Cleveland Indian's baseball game.

The Heart Of Saturday Night Morse Code Of Love Don't Ask Me To Be Lonely Oh What A Night Rainy Day Bells Countdown to Love Lonely Teardrops Maybe Baby Blue Moon Drifter's Medley Here I Am Broken Hearted Tears On My Pillow A White Sport Coat / Young Love Star Spangled Banner |
East Coast doo-wop group, whose five members ably perform oldies
from a variety of styles Ð the common denominator of which is that they are
all great American music! R & B influenced vocal harmony groups ('Drifter's
Medley') and first-generation rockers, a la Buddy Holly ('Maybe Baby'), both
contributed to the doo-wop sound of the fifties and early sixties. In turn,
those trends evolved into Motown ('Lonely Teardrops'), and the Brill Building
pop of Neil Sedaka ('Rainy Day Bells'). The Showvinistics' arrangements of songs
from each of these eras retain the integrity of the style, while adding subtle
impact with their solid and confident vocals. Four tracks are accompanied.
