A masterpiece is a work which proves beyond doubt the mastery of a certain discipline. This recording is no exception for those of us who weren't fortunate to be present when The Masters of Harmony, under the direction of Dr. Greg Lyne, won the gold medal and were acclaimed International Chorus Champions in both l990 and l993. Masterpiece begins with a long fascinating medley of nine Jerome Kern songs with an announcer giving brief historical notes in between the excerpts. This is a great recording. "Puttin' On The Ritz" and "Ya Got Trouble" are likely to become standards by which other choruses measure their progress, in fact this whole album will! |
