Presented by James Galway and filmed at Harewood House, this 1987 program features eight mostly classical and traditional pieces, from "There's Nae Luck" to "The Flight Of The Bumblebee." One work, "Sea Rune," was comissioned for the group in 1986, and is a challenging polyphonic composition. "Bumble Bee" is an exciting and dramatic reading, and the video's closer, "Creole Love Call," (a piece that was featured in the repetoire of the legendary Comedian Harmonists), is a marvelous combination of musicianship and theatrics. The King's Singers "big band" rendition requires lip diddling, chin slapping and nose tweaking, all done with a fair bit of glee! |
