He Is Risen Field Of Souls Livin' for Jesus Don't Let Go Do You? Reason Heavenly Father We Appreciate You Heaven Medley Jesus, He Is Coming |
In Bahama the singers have a subtly unique sense of harmony which is reminiscent
of the very early ecstatic singing of the early Christian church. At that time,
pre Gregorian numerical rigidity, the singers would sing as the spirit moved
them, often singing in microtonal variations of marvelous originality. This
has always seemed to be a reasonable analogy when you hear subtly different
chords meticulously created by voices singing exacting intervals. The four singers
of Reconciled are the inheritors of this island tradition as they apply themselves
to create an exciting new Gospel sound. From the very beginning of the recording
on "He Is Risen" in which we are treated to a joyous rap break amidst a sweet
lilting repetitive refrain, the unique Bahamian sense of harmony is both familiar
and new. As your soul is lifted by the musical ministry of this quartet, lead
by Shane Miller, you will find elements of rap, soul, doo-wop, rock n' roll,
traditional Gospel, and island tunes, lovingly crafted with rhythm tracks of
vocal percussion and emphatic repetitious sounds. At times the tunes sound almost
like some of the work of Acappella but then you are reminded by the subtle chord
differences that these are original and unique creators. There is a wonderful
island party atmosphere vocally created as the background of "Reason" (no that's
not Vocal Sampling sitting in on this tune!). Then there is the medley of traditional
tunes in which we are treated to a whole group of old faithfuls. From "Down
By the Riverside" the group segues right into "I Bid You Good Night," reminding
us of Joseph Spence and the Pindar family. "Wade In the Water" and "Swing Low
Chariot" complete this medley of familiars. If you are interested in either
world music or Gospel/Contemporary Christian music, this recording should not
be missed.
