Review: Organized in 1984 under the direction of Mack Wilberg, the 90-voice BYUCC is one of two highly select mixed choral ensembles that continue a long choral singing tradition at the University. The group has appeared in concert at national ACDA and MTNA conventions and with the Utah Symphony. On "All Creatures" the group's full, rich, flawless sound is featured on a collection of 12 symphonically accompanied, mostly traditional Christian hymns and songs of praise. The title tune, "The Lord Is My Shepherd," John Gardner's "Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning," "Be Still My Soul" and "Jesus, Once of Humble Birth" are particularly fine. Mack Wilberg's skills as an arranger are evident on four songs, and his own compositions, "Jesu, the Very Thought Is Sweet," and "Fantasia on Early Latter-day Saint Hymns," are wonderful. Review: The success of Shout with Glory! created a great demand for more music from the BYU Men's Chorus, and Awake My Soul was the welcome follow-up. A collection of 14 favorite hymns performed under the baton of then conductor Mack Wilberg (now the director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir), Awake My Soul was recorded at Brigham Young University and features the indomitable spirit of the BYU Men's Chorus, which is said to be one of the largest and finest of its kind in the nation. A new digitally remastered release from Tantara Records, Awake My Soul was previously released as a Deseret Book Company album.

Mack Wilberg is the Music Director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. He was appointed Music Director in March 2008, having served as Associate Music Director since May 1999. He is a former professor of music at Brigham Young University, where he received his bachelors degree; his masters and doctoral degrees are from the University of Southern California. In addition to his conducting responsibilities he is active as apianist, choral clinician, composer, arranger, and guest conductor throughout the United States and abroad. In addition to the many compositions he has written for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, his works have been performed by artists such as Renee Fleming, Frederica von Stade, Bryn Terfel, The Kings Singers, and narrators Walter Cronkite and Claire Bloom. Wilbergs arrangements and compositions are performed and recorded all over the world. With their grandeur, energy, and craftsmanship, they inspire performers and audiences everywhere.
