Founded in 1979, The 35-strong mixed-voice SLCC has come to be regarded as one of the finest ensembles of its kind in the country, and is known at home and abroad for its artistry and its inspiring, angelic sound. Founder/director Ralph B. Woodward leads these talented children through 24 lovely (piano accompanied) pieces, from Grieg's "Greeting" and "De Norske Fjelde," " Brahms' "My Heart Is In Bloom" and "Song of the Skylark," Schumann's "In The Open Air" and "Moonlit Night," and Franz' "The Rose Sighed," to Scottish folk tunes "Ca' The Yowes" and "Sweet Woodlark," French folk tune "Il Pleut, Bergere" and Slovakian folk tune "Zalet' Sokol," the sweet voices and perfectly chosen material take us to a wonderful place. The ensemble concludes with "Air," "Little Lamb," Psalm Twenty-Three," "Evening Prayer" and "A Day In Spring," by which time we're ready for our story and to be tucked in to bed. Lovely and recommended. |
