Voice Male

Voice Male

Group.

Voice Male has been made up of six very different individuals who somehow found each other over 16 years ago. With the passing of Phil Kesler, they have decided to honor his wish that Voice Male continue on. John Luthy came up with the Voice Male concept while singing with some of the guys in the Logan LDS Institute Choir. Soon nine guys set out to sing at every event they could get their hands on. You might have recognized them from such events as Timmy's 3rd birthday party or the 4th ward Relief Society social. A year later, they lost three members and unfortunately, none of them were ever found. Over the years, they expanded their reach further and further, traveling to several states and to Mexico, performing over 120 songs for thousands of fans. They have been blessed to have many enriching opportunities to perform in great locations for great people. Considering this is not their day job, they are lucky to pull together and accomplish anything at this point. They all graduated into careers ranging from Computer Networking to Real Estate to Law. When they are not working or singing, they are enjoying time with their supportive wives and children. The latest tally: 20 children who like to call each other Voice Male Cousins. Who knows what is in store for the future of Voice Male. It doesn't really matter, because the past has been pretty great.

Voice Male : Kid Stuff

Review: Prolific Utah-based male sextet Voice Male has 8 excellent albums in the PAC catalog, including "Jingles," the 1999 CARA award for Best Holiday Album. The six men now can count 17 children in their families, who provide some guest vocals on "Kid Stuff." This wonderful children's album has 15 tunes, some silly and whimsical like "Song With No Words" (written by group member Mike Bearden), "Popcorn Popping," "Noodles On My Back," "Rubber Ducky" and "Bouncy Ball" and "The Sleepy" (both written by Mike Bearden and his wife Jill);" some Disney favorites like "Pecos Bill," "When I See An Elephant Fly" (from Dumbo), "It's a Small World," and "Circle of Life" (from The Lion King). We also loved the Michael Jackson song "ABC" (with the words changed to teach kids the alphabet), "Sing, Sing A Song" and Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Do Re Mi" (from The Sound of Music), Neil Diamond's (for the Monkees) "I'm A Believer," and the final cut, "Now The Day is Over." "Kid Stuff is Big Fun for kids of all ages, and is designed to get everyone learning singing along!

Songlist: ABC, Song With No Words, Popcorn Popping, Sing, Sing A Song, Noodles On My Back, Do Re Mi, Pecos Bill, Bouncy Ball, When I see An Elephant Fly, It's A Small World, I'm A Believer, Rubber Ducky, Circle Of Life, The Sleepy, Now The Day Is Over

Danny Boy

Voice Male : Hooked

Review: Six guys from West of the Rockies are keeping the Voice Male tradition alive and they are doing it incredibly well. In harmony, they take you to the movies to find the "Rainbow Connection", you find yourself floating in the Acapulco bay with a humorous rendition of the "Love Boat Theme", and you'll be "Walking on Sunshine". They pay tribute to tradition with a beautifully arranged "Danny Boy" and knock around a bit with James Taylor's "Only You". You're funny bone will tickle with "Farmer Tan" and "Send Me to Glory In A Glad Bag", and your desires inspired with "Give Them A Vision". Extra special mention goes to "You Lift Me Up", a Voice Male original. Appropriately titled "Hooked" because we believe you will be!

Songlist: Walkin' On Sunshine, Good Lovin', Only One, You Lift Me Up, Danny Boy, Love Boat Theme, Rainbow Connection, Light in Your Eyes, It's All Been Done, Farmer Tan, Send Me To Glory In A Glad Bag, Been There, Give Them A Vision

Voice Male : Jingles

Review: A sextet from Utah, Voice Male performs all of the Christmas standards with aplomb, and as well as several idiosyncratic tracks that reveal a mischievious side to their natures. Two poems (?), one of which, "The Christmas Tree Was Green And Bright," mentions the Swedish bikini team (?) and dismisses any notion of predicatability coming from this group, gives way to a stellar "Angels We Have Heard On High"; "Homeless" comforts us with the true meaning of Christmas. The unexpected countermelodies of "O Holy Night" and "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" are just two examples of the creative flourishes that ornament these familiar carols, elevating them from the ordinary to the distinctive.

Songlist: Jingle Bell Rock, The Little Drummer Boy, The Christmas Song, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, Winter Wonderland, Jamaican Noel, Silent Night, The Christmas Tree Was Green And Bright, Angels We Have Heard On High, Homeless, 'Twas The Night Before Christmas, Grandma Got Ran Over By A Reindeer, Christmas Chopsticks, We Wish You A Merry Christmas, O Holy Night, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

Voice Male : Jingles 2

Review: Utah-based six-man Voice Male has released seven CDs to date, including the self-produced "Jingles", which won the 1999 CARA for Best Holiday Album. Luckily, this encouraged the guys to do a sequel! Much of the arranging on these 15 songs is by group member Mike Beardon, who has a mischievious streak and a refreshing irreverence - cue the Doo-Woppy "White Christmas," sassy, silly "Baby It's Cold Outside," a live (with Mike's daughter Casie) "Rudolph," a very strange "Tractin' in a Winter Wonderland," and "The Chipmunk Song." They can play it straight too-note the faux trumpets on "I'll Be Home for Christmas," the King's Singers' arrangement of "Jingle Bells," sweet "Away in a Manger" and more. Will CARAs fit in 6 stockings?

Songlist: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Joy to the World, Away in a Manger, White Christmas, Carol of the Bells, O Come, O Come, Emmanuel, Baby, It's Cold Outside, I'll be Home For Christmas, Hark! The Herald Angel's Sing, We Three King's of Orient Are, Jingle Bells, Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer, The Night Before Christmas (A Family Poem), Tractin' In A Winter Storm, The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't be Late)

Voice Male : Six

Review: The contemporary group Voice Male is Richard McAllister, tenor, Mike Bearden, tenor, John Huff, Baritone, Phil Kesler, baritone, Mike Willson, bass and John Luthy, vocal percussion and bass. "6" refers to the fact that this is their 6th CD, and probably also to the 6 years that these very talented men have been singing and performing together. We think this will be a breakthrough CD for them, for "6" is a joy from start to finish! Comparisons with Rockapella, the House Jacks and the Beach Boys come to mind as VM hands us one powerful cover after another, held together by John's rock-solid vocal percussion. Much of the excellent arranging is by group members, and the guys take turns singing lead, showing off their vocal talents. 14 well-chosen songs here: a fun "Brown Eyed Girl," "A Million Ways," U2's "Pride" (In the Name of Love), "It's so Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday," "My Maria," "The Shadow of Your Smile," great vocal "horns" on "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," "Sam, You Made the Pants Too Long," James Taylor's "That Lonesome Road" and "Sun on the Moon," "In The Still of the Night," "Loch Lomond," "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "Celebration." Fun stuff-highly recommended!

Songlist: Brown Eyed Girl, A Million Ways, Pride (In The Name of Love), It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday, My Maria, The Shadow of Your Smile, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Sam You Made The Pants Too Long, That Lonesome Road, In The Still Of The Night, Sun On The Moon, Loch Lommond, Breakfast At Tiffany's, Celebration
