BaSix a cappella group

baSix is a remarkable Danish a cappella group consisting of six guys. Spanning pop, jazz, r&b, soul, and rock and blending strong, original compositions with innovative arrangements of timeless songs, baSix has presented first-rate a cappella to fans around the world since 1999. An honorable second place in "Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2001" (the national forerunner of the Eurovision Song Contest), broadcast live on national TV, seriously kick-started the career of the six singers, who have continued to dazzle their audiences ever since.

baSix has performed in concert halls, theaters, clubs, cafés, churches, festivals, at conferences, and private events in Denmark as well as abroad and has appeared on national radio and television numerous times. Latest in November 2004, where baSix performed with (among others) Mick Hucknall (Simply Red), Westlife, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ana Johnson, Katie Melua in "The great Christmas Show". Next to various guest performances on several other artists' albums, baSix has released three personal albums so far: "The grass" (2001), "Embodiment" (2003) and “Christmastime” (2004). Right after its release, "The grass" broke into the charts and attained the best placing of an a cappella album ever recorded in Denmark, and only a few months later, it earned the group a gold album for selling more than 25,000 copies!

Originally, it was the Italian vocal group Neri Per Caso who inspired the six Danish singers to get together and form a band of their own back in 1995. In the first four years, singing in baSix was no more than a precious hobby, but in 1999, the members of the vocal sextet decided to turn their musical partnership into a professional vocation and work full time with what they all enjoy the most: singing a cappella.

Diversity

The first thing that the (beautiful, multi-page, color, with cool pix and all the lyrics) liner notes of "Diversity" tells us is that this is the 5th album by Basix, "the first Basix album containing solely original songs straight from the minds and hearts of all the members of the group. Enjoy!" Easy for us, since these 6 talented Danish men first formed Basix in 1995 we have been watching this group get more amazing with every excellent CD, until we hold "Diversity" in our hot little hands, a tour-de-force 2 CD set that is world-class on every level. There's a total of 19 original tunes here, all sung in English, each one a gem. The fresh, clean sound, the confident, light background vocals and vocal percussion, the surprising, poetic lyrics, the sweet leads—what's not to enjoy? OK, I guess we'll have to pick some favorites at this point. "Super Natural Conversation" on disk 2, a wonderful reggae tune with an early Beatles flavor, "Tease" on disk 1 is a sexy, rhythmic romp, the title tune on disc 1 is a juicy foot-tapping suggestion against racism, and "So Much Better" is a marvelously arranged hit with the eye-opening opening line "I'm sorry, but I think you suck." "Change" on disk 1 simply needs to be listened to, as do "Let's Move On" and "Think Twice." On disk 2 "A Thousand Years," "It Won't Matter To Me," "High On Life (In The Slow Lane)," "Honesty" and "Without You" are all stone winners. There are certain groups (The Real Group, for instance) that push the a cappella envelope with every recording, every performance, and Basix is such a group. Don't miss this one!

Embodiment

For their second release baSix has the great idea of getting some of a cappella's finest talents to help them so they engaged the House Jack's Deke Sharon and Britt Quinten of M-Pact to produce the album. A mixture of some fine original songs along with pop classics such as Prince's "Purple Rain" and the Beatles "Come Together" makes for a top-notch contemporary a cappella album worthy of all fan's collections. All songs are in English and the production quality is superb thanks to noted a cappella sound engineer Bill Hare.

Christmastime

A Christmas winner! This fabulous a cappella pop holiday release has been awarded two CARA awards, for ”Best Holiday Album” and ”Best Holiday Song” and it's easy to see why it has won such acclaim. Once again this talented group presents fascinating arrangements this time of modern Christmas classics such as George Michael's "Last Christmas", Joni Mitchell's "River" and Christina Aguilera's "This Christmas". Production values are always top-notch with the group and this well-produced, sung and arranged album will be a holiday favorite to play season after season. Recommended.

The Grass

The group gives credit to Italian a cappella greats Neri Per Caso as an inspiration for their sound and this debut album does justice to that high standard. The CD was a hit in their native Denmark and was the first a cappella recording ever to make the Danish pop charts where it stayed for 7 weeks selling over 25,000 copies. A great beginning for this fine a cappella sextet.

Star People

An EP release of songs from their "Star People" show highling three diiferent producers who mixes the songs in entirely different ways. A great listen.
