Merry Christmas Baby

Christmas Is Coming
Winter Wonderland

After a couple of decades and over 20 albums perhaps the most well-known of all vocal harmony groups has released their very first all a cappella recording – and it was well worth the wait! Of course we might well be somewhat biased due to our love of unaccompanied vocals but this album is truly a joy and will become, we are sure, a vocal harmony Christmas classic. First released in Japan the recording was produced by Tim Hauser and co-produced by the highly regarded Roger Treece who also arranged some of the songs. The vocals are always solid with the Transfer and their voices are highlighted even further when sung unaccompanied with each voice showing their years of experience as vocal jazz singers. The arrangements are stellar and this album will be bringing you holiday cheer for years to come.

The Standards: A Night To Remember

Let Ring Out The Bells
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer
Little Saint Nick
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy
White Christmas
Carol of the Bells
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Luke 2
O Holy Night
Silent Night
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

We have been wowed by these five brothers from Idaho, twice when they nearly won the Harmony Sweeps, by their first 3 CDs, and now, even more so, by "A Night," their Christmas CD. We join the guys singing "Let Ring Out the Bells" on the street on a snowy evening, where they see a homeless man and a boy, Julian. They sing a wonderfully Doo-Woppy "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer" and the Beach Boys' "Little Saint Nick" for them, then they take Julian on a walking odyssey to find the true meaning of Christmas. On the way they harmonize on "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy," "White Christmas," "Carol of the Bells," "God Rest Ye, Merry Gentlemen," "O Holy Night," "Silent Night" and the piano-accompanied "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" as beautifully as we have ever heard these songs. The interactions with Julian and the guys are touching and profound, but if you'd just like to hear the tunes, a second CD with just the songs is included. A truly magical "Night!"

It adds up to a yummy, rich, deep-bass, vocal Christmas pudding to enjoy again and again!

High energy Contemporary Christian all male trio Go Fish apply their tight Rockapella-like sound and cutting-edge arrangements to a Christmas collection, beginning with an accompanied, rewritten "Joy to the World," seguing into a surprising, upbeat "We Three Kings," with jazzy scat non-vocal percussion. An a cappella, traditional, richly harmonic "Away in a Manger/ Beautiful Savior" medley follows, a jazzy, heavily-accompanied original, "Christmas with a Capital C". A finger-snapping, mellow a cappella "White Christmas," a thought-provoking "It's About the Cross," plus the rhythmic, powerful "Little Drummer Boy." round out the album.

It's the first weekend in May, and the sold-out audience at Marin Veterans Auditorium in San Rafael, CA is buzzing with anticipation of seeing the Harmony Sweepstakes Finals, possibly the best live show in a cappella! 8 Regional-winning groups are backstage, having beat out as many as 8 other groups for the privilege of singing their hearts out for the National Championship. "Finals" has 16 of the best tunes from that memorable night, including Bay Area winner Clockwork's jazzy "My Baby Just Cares For Me," and wonderful cover of Radiohead's "Creep," part of an excellent set that won them 3rd place, and the award for "Best Original Arrangement." We hear Mid-Atlantic-winning Regency's "Only You" and high-energy "Jump, Jive and Wail," part of a great set that won them 2nd place. LA barbershop quartet Hi Fidelity, in "Addams Family" costume, bring us the "Addams Family" theme and a key-bending, hilarious "Blackbird," they won both Audience Favorite and the National Championship. New York Quartet 'Round Midnight's "Take the A-Train" and "Tin Roof Blues," Chicago's Elmo Thumm's "Last Train to Clarksville" and "Shooting Star," Denver's Curious Gage's "Long Train Runnin'" and "Windmills" show us how good Hi-Fidelity had to be to win. Boston's Traces sing "As" and "Wonderful World," which won Best Original Song," and the Pacific NW's Tongue Tied A Cappella give us a dynamic cover of the Starship's "We Built This City." Exciting cuts from a magic May evening in San Rafael!

What a find! After well over a decade of selling a cappella recordings those joyous days of discovering unknown a cappella artists are fewer but we have just come across another great a cappella talent in Ottawa-based sextet Quintessence. Influenced by groups such as The Manhattan Transfer, Les Swingle Singers and Singers Unlimited the group brings it's own jazzy style to a a wide variety of repertoire, from big-band through to hits of recent years and some original material. The group arranged most all of the songs themselves bringing freshness to these great standards that are a real pleasure to hear. The voices blend very well and there are a couple of very strong solos especially those of Marion Xhignesse and Susan Mayo. A recommended release for vocal jazz aficionados.

As quite possibly the most highly regarded Sweet Adeline quartet performing today we had high expectations for this new release and are pleased to report that the CD perhaps even surpasses those hopes. This is a very talented quartet of singers who has chosen a most eclectic and interesting repertoire for this recording. They are also singing the arrangements of a veritable who's who of the great barbershop arrangers including Latzko, Wright, Briner, Waeche, Clancy and Rene Craig. Barbershop gurus Joe Connelly and Tony DeRosa also helped with the recording adding further to the feel of barbershop royalty and to the impeccable sound of the CD. This Buzzapalooza has plenty of razzmatazz and is highly recommended to all fans of barbershop singing.

It's good to be the Queen! So says this fabulous quartet after they became the 2006 Queens of Harmony in Detroit Michigan winning in one of the toughest international competitions in years. Kerry Denino, LeAnn Hazlett, Patti Britz and Kendra LaPointe wear their crowns well as is amply demonstrated on this fine recording where tight harmonies, fine voices and interesting arrangements abound. There's nothing quite like the sound of a top-notch women's barbershop quartet and this recording is one of the best in the genre.
